Copper faces in the preview exceed the support angle. Red faces are degenerate triangles. The wall check samples inward rays across the mesh.

The JSON report includes the score, dimensions, edge counts, degenerate triangle count, overhang area, wall samples, and every diagnostic note.

What the STL Doctor reports

  • The score starts at 100 and drops for fail or warning conditions. A watertight mesh with clean triangles and manageable overhangs will usually land in the printable range.
  • Boundary edges mean an edge is only used by one triangle. Non-manifold edges mean more than two triangles share the same edge. Both can produce holes, missing walls, or slicer repair prompts.
  • Overhangs are estimated from triangle normals against the build-plate Z axis. Re-orient the model if the copper area is high, or plan supports where those faces cannot bridge.
  • Wall thickness is sampled with inward rays from triangle centers. It is a fast warning system, not a substitute for a full slicer preview, but it catches many thin-shell STL files before print time.
  • Files stay local. For related workflows, use the STL Splitter to cut large models, or return to the tools hub.
