Desk thickness is the opening between the jaws. Reach is how far the upper jaw sits over the desktop.

The screw stays nominal Ø12 x 2 mm; the fit slider only grows the nut. 0.9 mm lands on the CAD job's own thread envelope — go tighter for a well-tuned printer, looser if threads normally seize. Flanks keep 0.78 mm of bite.

Printing notes

  • The J-hook is a general desk-edge hanger. Headphones are the usual first print; the same clamp holds bags, backpacks, cables, jackets, or small tools if you size the hook and reach.
  • Export lays the C-frame on its side so it prints as a 2.5D profile with no supports. The screw stands knob-down.
  • Both threads are real single-start helices, Ø12 with a 2 mm pitch, cut from the same profile so they mate. Fit adjustment goes into the nut only, which is why the screw never changes when you move the slider.
  • Start at 0.9 mm on diameter. Drop toward 0.4 mm if your printer holds tolerance and you want a snug feel; raise it toward 1.5 mm if printed threads normally bind.
  • Use PETG if the clamp stays on a desk under load. PLA is fine for a first fit check, but it creeps.
  • Thread the screw in from below after both parts cool. If it starts hard, chase the nut with the screw itself — do not scale the hole in the slicer.

What can I hang from a 3D printed desk clamp?

The J-hook hangs off the desk edge. Common uses are headphones, bags, backpacks, cables, jackets, and small tools. Size the hook length and desk reach to the object — the clamp is not limited to headphones.

How do I match the clamp to my desk thickness?

Set desk thickness to the thickest part of the desktop. This generator covers 25–65 mm. Desk reach is how far the upper jaw sits over the top. Leave a little extra opening rather than going undersize.

Is the printed screw strong enough, or do I need metal hardware?

The clamp uses a printed Ø12 × 2 mm screw and matching nut. Print both parts and thread them together after they cool. Use PETG if the hook stays loaded; PLA is fine to check fit but it creeps under constant weight.

Which file should I download?

STEP is the CAD manufacturing source — two solids, so the screw stays separate from the hole. Bambu / Orca 3MF opens print-ready with the frame on its side and the screw standing. ZIP of STLs is one file per part for any slicer. Generic 3MF keeps both parts and colors without Bambu settings.
