Wrong build plate selected = instant fail

Don't pick the wrong PEI plate in the slicer and hope the printer figures it out. Textured PEI is the powder-coated stock plate — strong grip without glue, textured bottom. Smooth PEI is the flat one. Only PLA skips glue on Smooth; other filaments can tear the sheet. Wrong plate means wrong heat and wrong adhesion.

How to match the PEI plate in the slicer to the sheet on the bed

  1. 1 The printer does not know the plate

    Wrong build plate selected in the slicer is an instant fail. Your printer does not magically know what's under the nozzle. You tell Studio. Match the sheet that is actually on the bed.

  2. 2 Textured PEI is the everyday plate

    It is the powder-coated stock plate. Strong grip without glue for most filaments. It stamps a textured finish on the bottom of the part. Better default for PETG, ABS, and set-and-forget adhesion.

  3. 3 Smooth PEI is for a flat bottom

    Use it when you need a level face and tighter fits. Smooth matte bottom. It is often the worse default. Only PLA skips glue on Smooth PEI. Other filaments need glue so the sheet does not tear.

  4. 4 Wrong plate is the wrong recipe

    Pick the wrong plate in Studio and you're already printing the wrong heat and the wrong adhesion. This is not advanced tuning. Same mistake as diesel in a gas car.

Can I print PETG on Smooth PEI?

Only with glue. Bambu says only PLA skips glue on Smooth PEI. Other filaments need glue so the sheet does not tear. Textured is the easier PETG plate.

How do I tell textured and smooth apart?

Textured is powder-coated and bumpy. It leaves a textured first layer. Smooth is the flat matte sheet. Look at the plate on the bed, then pick that same plate in Studio.

Does the printer auto-detect the plate?

Some newer Bambu machines read a QR code. First-generation sheets often will not. Do not trust a guess. If the screen asks, pick the plate you can see. Wrong plate still means wrong heat.

What about the Cool Plate?

Different sheet. This clip is textured vs smooth PEI. If a Cool Plate is on the bed, select Cool Plate in Studio. Do not leave Textured PEI selected because it was last week's default.
